MEET THE PRINCIPAL

The Buckfield Junior Senior High School (BJSHS) is situated approximately one mile from the center of Buckfield on route 140, in the central portion of Oxford County in southwestern Maine. The school became a part Regional School Unit #10 in July of 2009. RSU #10 is also known as the Western Foothills Regional School Unit and is comprised of the towns of Buckfield, Hanover, Hartford, Mexico, Roxbury, Rumford & Sumner. BJSHS serves the Nezinscot Region of RSU #10, which includes the towns of Buckfield, Hartford & Sumner. The Nezinscot Region, noted for its orchards, forest products and distinctive rural character, receives its name from the Nezinscot River that flows through the area. Despite the lack of major industry or business, Routes 4 and 26 are a link for the three towns to college campuses, ski areas, the seacoast, the other towns of RSU #10 and the cities of South Paris, Lewiston, Augusta, and Portland.

Believing that learning is a life long process encompassing the body, mind and spirit, the mission of Buckfield Junior Senior High School (BJSHS) is to honor individual differences, foster creativity, encourage active participation and challenging all to reach their full potential. Our professional teaching staff provides approximately 230 students, attending grades 7-12 with a caring and personalized educational environment. Using a schedule of eight blocks, alternating over two days, students complete their course of study by completing a combination of core and elective classes.

There are a variety of additional educational opportunities available to students of the area beyond the typical course of study. Students may take college level courses at Bates College in Lewiston, the University of Southern Maine (through Lewiston Auburn College), Central Maine Community College in Auburn, or Western Maine College in South Paris. Students can take AP and some college level classes at BJSHS. Students may also attend Oxford Hills Vocational Technical School for programs such as culinary arts, law enforcement, health care, video and computer technology, graphic arts, plumbing & HVAC, and auto-mechanics. Students can also participate in extra-curricular activities offered, including soccer, basketball, cheering, softball, and baseball.
