It is my pleasure and honor to welcome you to Mountain Valley High School home of the Falcons. MVHS is located at the gateway to the western Maine mountain region in Rumford, Maine. Our school serves students grades 9-12 from Rumford, Mexico, Byron and Roxbury. It is one of 7 schools that make up Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10. We have a student population of approximately 400 students and have a highly qualified staff of 42 professionals. MVHS is a proficiency based school.
Situated in Rumford, Maine our building was first opened in 1969. Over the years it has been updated to meet the needs of today’s students. The school is well maintained, safe and offers a high-tech environment to learn and grow. MVHS has a high-ropes course, 700 seat auditorium, state of the art recording studio, 1500 square foot fitness studio, a disc golf course and many other amenities on campus. The community offers residents a major ski slope (Black Mountain of Maine), a championship 9 hole golf course (Oakdale Country Club), two community rec parks (Hosmer Field Complex and Mexico Rec Park), miles of recreational trails, two rivers for paddling, multiple mountains for hiking and countless other outdoor adventures. The MVHS Community offers an ideal setting for our students to live, learn, and play.
Mountain Valley was established in 1989 by combining traditional rivals, the Mexico Pintos and the Rumford Panthers. In the short amount of time since the merger MVHS has crafted a rich tradition of excellence in the classroom, on the stage and with our athletics programs. MVHS is filled with “Falcon Pride”. We offer students a well rounded education placing an emphasis on preparing our students for College, Career and Citizenship. Mountain Valley has a wide variety of course offering to meet every student’s individual needs and we provide a wealth extra/co-curricular activities in an effort to provide an opportunity for every child to be involved with the school community. You can find out more about our school on our Facebook page and you can learn more about the success of our graduates on Facebook at a page titled #FalconsFly. We are very proud of our students’ accomplishments past, present and future.
While I hope that you find this webpage welcoming and informative, it is impossible to capture everything that makes MVHS a special place using a webpage. I encourage you to stop by the next time you’re in Rumford.
